The study followed a sequential mixed-methods design across two cohorts at JNU and DU, drawing 248 first-generation doctoral scholars over the 2023 academic year (Hayes, 2022, p. 142). Participants completed a 90-item reading inventory and sat for a 45-minute semi-structured interview.
